Each year 20,000 – 30,000 indigenous families leave the tropical regions of Southern Mexico and Central America seeking better social and economic climates. These migrant families travel 2,200 miles by bus, train, or foot to fill one of the many agricultural jobs in Sinaloa and Baja California.
Despite genuine efforts to earn a living, establish a home, and raise a family, this migrant community’s deep ethnic, economic, and educational differences keep them alienated from Baja’s society. These migrants live isolated and ignored in their own country.
